We just held our FIRST online Basic Course on Fund Raising (BCFR)!

To help manage our participants’ online workshop load, we conducted our 20-hour BCFR over five days. We were joined by a diverse group of enthusiastic fund raisers last August 26-27 and September 1-3 for the 73rd run of the BCFR.

Specifically, representatives from the following organizations attended the intensive workshop to learn the art and science of professional fund raising:

On day 1, Ms. Pinky, our Executive Director, leveled the participants' understanding of what fund raising is and isn’t by presenting the basic resource mobilization concepts and principles. The session continued to discuss how an organization’s fund raising initiatives should be anchored to its vision, mission, and strategic goals, which was discussed by Ms. Pfiona Canapi, one of our Program Associates.

Day 2’s morning session, facilitated by our HR and Administrative Manager, Ms. April Mamaril, revolved around the different stakeholders who should be involved in the entire fund raising process and the different policies, systems, and structures that should be in place before fund raising commences.

In the afternoon, Ms. Lourdes Cortez, our Senior Program Manager, shared the current fund raising trends and environment at the national, regional, and global levels that the participants can take into consideration before planning their campaigns. She also discussed the general findings from Venture’s COVID-19 Impact Study on the Philippine Non-Profit Sector.

On Day 3, Ms. Pinky discussed how the participants can expand their constituencies and identify their prospective donors. She then moved on to present the different fund raising acquisition strategies that organizations can employ.

Day 4 opened with a discussion on the several emerging online fund raising strategies which were facilitated by Ms. Lourdes, while the succeeding strategies on upgrading donors such as major gift solicitation and planned giving, were discussed by Ms. Pinky.

The other sources of non-profit funds, grant proposal writing, earned income strategies, and social enterprises were discussed in the morning session of Day 5.

In the afternoon, Ms. Lourdes provided an overview of the basic indicators in monitoring and evaluating fund raising campaigns. Ms. Pinky also shared an introduction to strategic fund raising planning, and a BONUS session on fund raising readiness self-assessment and case statement formulation.

To make the workshop more interactive, the course featured group activities and sharing sessions to also allow our participants to immediately put into practice the theories that were discussed in each session.

Our heartfelt thank you to all our participants for your active participation and for sharing your insights, questions, and experiences! These contributed greatly to the quality and success of the workshop!

We hope that you found the BCFR informative and worthwhile, and that you are now more excited and ready to raise funds for your organizations! Happy friend-raising!
