Venture for Fund Raising, in collaboration with Mindanao State University-Main Campus Supreme Student Government (MSU-Main SSG) offered a Fund Raising Capacity-Building Seminar for student and youth organization participants to equip them with practical knowledge and skills in fund raising, stakeholder engagement and organizational sustainability.

Organized through an invitation by the Mindanao State University-Main Campus Supreme Student Government (MSU-Main SSG), this impactful Fund Raising Capacity-Building Webinar brought together student leaders and academic, socio-civic, and community/youth-based organizations based in Mindanao to advance meaningful initiatives through effective resource mobilization.

In her opening remarks, Hon. Sittie Jamima Benito highlighted the importance of the webinar to student leaders, emphasizing how their ideas can be turned into reality and how essential fund raising is in building sustainable organizations and creating impact.

Representing Venture, Deputy Executive Director Ms. Kiel Fernandez led the highly insightful and practical fund raising seminar. Drawing from Venture’s 27 years of experience and lessons learned, Ms. Fernandez guided the participants from Mindanao State University-Main Campus and its networks through the fundamentals of fund raising.

Ms. Fernandez kicked off the webinar by debunking common fund raising myths and misconceptions and sharing practical strategies for addressing them. She emphasized that fund raising is not just about raising money—it is about raising friends.

The discussion also explored fund raising strategies and planning processes to equip student and youth organizations with practical knowledge and skills to address common challenges, strengthen their capacity to implement and expand their projects, and deepen their contributions to the community and society.

A highlight of the webinar was the open forum, where the participants raised questions on income-generating projects, ethical considerations when seeking donors, key factors funders often look for in proposals, and how organizations can better prepare for fund raising initiatives.

In response, Ms. Fernandez shared practical tips and strategies, including taking inventory of their members’ skills and finding ways to maximize them, revisiting the organization’s values and mission as a guide when raising funds, developing policies that support ethical donor engagement, listening closely to donors, and using their platforms to become effective voices for their organizations.
