Leading an organization effectively means balancing a lot of moving parts—and managing an even wider variety of people. But when partners, donors, board members, alumni, and volunteers feel like you only reach out when you need something, engagement drops and momentum grinds to a halt.

To tackle this challenge head-on, Venture followed up its Basic Course on Fund Raising #78 (held September 22–24, 2026) with a Stakeholder Engagement Workshop last September 25, 2026, at the Prestige Tower in Ortigas Center, Pasig City. The workshop empowered 43 participants from 19 organizations representing a diverse range of sectors, including education, faith-based organizations, child protection, environmental conservation, agriculture, community development, women and technology, maritime education, and nonprofit capacity building to align diverse stakeholder groups, communicate impact with clarity, and transform passive supporters into active, lifelong advocates.

Setting the Foundation: Engage Before You Ask

Our Executive Director, Ms. Pinky Medina, kicked off the day with a quick refresher on core fund raising principles. She reminded everyone that "the best barometer of an organization’s value is when it is supported by its publics," highlighting a vital rule: engage first before you ask for support. She also shared how having a relational mindset, instead of a transactional one, is more sustainable over the long term.

Then, Ms. Pinky walked participants through the process of stakeholder mapping, showing how to plot stakeholders by their level of influence and interest. She also reminded the participants to focus primarily their time and energy on high-influence, high impact groups while keeping lower-influence, lower-impact groups consistently informed.

An ‘AHA’ insight:
“Identifying the influence and interest of the stakeholders would help us manage and connect with them better.”
- Ms. Erin

She then outlined the core systems, structures, and legal considerations for engaging stakeholders. She also detailed the specific roles, responsibilities, and team capacities needed across the organization, emphasizing that stakeholder engagement is a shared responsibility, not a one-person job.

To show how technology helps streamline engagement processes, Venture also welcomed Ms. Joanne Pacho, Social Impact Manager at Oracle NetSuite.

Ms. Pacho highlighted how maintaining a robust database and using CRM tools keeps stakeholder communications personalized and structured. She also provided a live demonstration of Oracle NetSuite, showing how non-profits can use the software to deepen relationships and optimize their fund raising activities.

Strategies on Stakeholder Engagement

In the afternoon, our Deputy Executive Director, Ms. Kiel Fernandez, led an actionable deep-dive into the stakeholder lifecycle. Grounding her approach in Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, she explained how taking care of a supporter's basic expectations first cultivates a foundation for long-term support.

An ‘AHA’ insight:
“Stakeholders and Donors are human too, they have needs that have to be met and they’re not walking ATMs.”
- Ms. Lanie

Building on this framework, Ms. Fernandez also guided attendees through practical strategies for welcoming, stewarding, and retaining stakeholders. She highlighted the power of demonstrating tangible impact by sharing concrete outcomes and stories that show exactly how contributions drive change.

Ms. Fernandez shared accessible tracking methods designed to ensure outreach remains personal and humanized as an organization grows. She noted that while tracking quantitative metrics like participation frequency is essential, capturing qualitative sentiment is equally critical. Organizations must monitor not just what stakeholders do, but how they genuinely feel about their relationship with the organization’s mission.

An ‘AHA’ insight:
“I just tried to measure the effectiveness of our partner engagement. But with the metrics guide, I think I will be able to tailor one for our organization.”
- Sir Kenny

To end her sessions, she also illustrated real-world successes and challenges on stakeholder engagement, encouraging participants to reflect on how similar approaches could be adapted to their own organizations.

We extend our sincere THANKS to all participating organizations, whose diverse perspectives enriched every discussion. We would also like to thank Ms. Joanne for sharing her valuable expertise on leveraging people, partnerships, and technology to create sustainable, scalable impact.
